Critical Days Ahead: Urgent Prayer for Kenya Needed

Dear Friends of Life, HLI once again asks your prayers and fasting this week before the final vote in Kenya on a new constitution which would legalize abortion on demand in that previously abortion-free country. The vote will be next Wednesday, August 4th, and we will report next week on the outcome of the vote. Thanks to the efforts of Congressman Christopher Smith (R-NJ) we have now found out that the Obama Administration has spent at least $23 million in the effort to influence the outcome of another country's referendum. This type of political influence, since much of it has been given to openly pro-abortion groups, is prohibited by U.S. law.

PrayerKindly pray for the babies of Kenya before the Blessed Sacrament this week if you are able. Even if you only remember Kenya in your private intentions at the Sunday Mass this weekend you will do a great deal to help the efforts to stop this wickedness that is knocking at Kenya's door. Pray also to the Guardian Angel of Kenya. It is a strong tradition in angelology that countries, ethnicities and natural communities of persons (even families) have guardian angels just like individuals have. I have found that prayers to guardian angels of whole countries are powerful if enough people raise their voices in intercession for their protection. This clear and present danger merits angelic protection if ever there was a need. FastingIf you are able to offer some sacrifice or fast from food this week for the cause of Kenya that would add a special potency to our prayer. The Lord Himself said that some demons are only driven out by "prayer and fasting," so we must trust very much in this powerful spiritual force of protection against such a demonic evil as abortion.

Where sin abounds grace abounds all the more St. Paul said that grace actually flourishes when great sinfulness shows its ugly face. We know that one of the immediate fruits of this fight in Kenya (even before the vote) has been to shine the light of truth on the evil of abortion and to cause the reaffirmation of the basic culture of life of the Kenyan people. We pray that grace will continue to abound in this fight for the preservation of all that is sacred, not only for the Kenyan people but for the African continent which still remains largely free of abortion.

Baby E Meets Senator Rick Santorum

At a recent pro-life dinner, we were fortunate to meet the former senator of Pennsylvania, Senator Rick Santorum. Dear hubby and I spoke with him briefly before the event and snapped this picture with Baby E. It was so encouraging to see a politician who has solid morals and values. His talk was so powerful and inspiring. Do I hear a," Santorum for 2012!" chant in the background?

Christmas at the Copper Corral

Here are some pictures of our Christmas traditions and gatherings. The first few are of our short gathering with the great grandparents and some of my husband's extended family on Christmas Eve night. Most of the pictures are of Christmas Day.

On Christmas morning we attended Mass, visited the nativity scene afterwards to sing “Happy Birthday” to Jesus, and then get our picture taken with Him. After Mass, we went home for a quick lunch and then Dear Hubby read the Christmas story to us all. It was always a big production in my family when baby Jesus is finally placed in the manger on Christmas day. The kids each got to process with a baby Jesus while singing “Silent Night”. Now as a mother, I’ve tried to do this with my own children before opening presents. This year my brother and his family were visiting and shared in this tradition. It was really neat to see all nine kids (ages 9 to 2 months) lined up in age order processing with their baby Jesus. Makes me want another six! LOL! Things were a little chaotic at times, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. We had a very blessed Christmas!

Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about families and family size. A friend of a friend just adopted a little girl. Friends of ours are expecting twins and this will mean that they will have 7 kids under the age of 6 when the twins arrive. I have no doubt that God will give them the strength to fulfill this monumental calling to be parents of so many little blessings. Some other friends of ours just had their 8th child. She was born with some physical problems, but after a surgery or two she should be fine for the most part. Maybe it is the inspiring examples of these three families, or just this time of year when we gather together with family, that makes me think about the importance of having the children God asks us to bring into this world.

Today is the feast of the Holy Family. I realize that nobody’s family will ever be perfect like that of the Holy Family. No parents can compare to Mary and St. Joseph. However, the generosity of those who say yes to God and lovingly accept another child into their family (whether through adoption or natural means) is inspiring to me. Pope John Paul II said that the best gift you can give your child is another sibling. I don’t know if we will be able to have any more children, but I am open to however many children God is calling us to bring into our family. What a better gift to give this time of year, than the gift of life!

Little Elias Michael is Born!

Introducing our newest little blessing---- ELIAS MICHAEL !

He was born Thursday, September 17 at 12:37 am. He was a little over two weeks early and still weighed in at 8 lbs. Elias measured in at 19 1/2 inches. Though, not the longest he is the heaviest.

Thank God, we had a healthy and rather uneventful labor despite my broken tailbone. It was due to God's own goodness and impecible timing. My husband was searching channels on the television to keep us busy during labor. I asked him if they had EWTN. It just so happened that the most difficult part of my labor coincided with the replaying of the daily Mass on EWTN around midnight. Thankfully, I was able to focus my attention on listening to the wonderful gospel readings and homily while I tried to breath through the most difficult contractions. As the time to give birth got closer, the nurses and doctors came in and turned the television off, but it was just after the Liturgy of the Eucharist of that retelevised Mass that Elias was born.

I repeated to myself, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." I kept thinking about the sacrifice that Jesus made for us nearly 2000 years ago on the cross. And continues to offer to us daily in the Holy Sacrifce of the Mass. It helped me to realize to join my sufferings to those of Christ. What I was undergoing for another person was nothing compared to what Jesus had done and continues to do for us. He hung there for three hours on that cross, being humiliated, taunted, and insulted. I was able to put my own sufferings into perspective when compared to those of Christ on the cross. As a result of God's Divine grace, this was one of the easier labors.

Enough about my inner thoughts during labor, here are a few of the photos we have taken thus far.

From Family Planning to Death PlanningIt's time to kiss grandma goodbye. Do it while you can, especially if she is sick. I am not being facetious here. The healthcare debate is deadly serious for seniors and those who will need a greater amount of healthcare in the coming years. People approaching retirement age will be obliged to start planning for death soon, and the government is more than ready to help them. According to this wicked bill, HR 3200, there are generous provisions setting the stage to weed out the weak, infirm and unfit and make room for the fit, all at the government's discretion. The list of chilling dictates that will affect all seniors and ill persons is just frightening [see sidebar for references]. I note just a few relevant provisions from the 1018-page document:
Page 29: healthcare will be rationed by government regulators;
Pages 30 and 42: government committees will be set up to decide what healthcare we can and can't have - a "Health Choices Commissioner" (Commissar?) will be in charge of these decisions;
Page 239: the government will limit and reduce physician services for Medicaid which means that the dependent elderly and those most unable to access other services will suffer;
Page 341: the government will be able to disqualify Medicare Part B and HMOs if they don't get with the program, which means that they can effectively put them out of business as competition; and no one will be able to sue the government for a de facto monopoly on healthcare or for price-fixing (p. 124);
Pages 425-430: "end-of-life" counseling and courses will be obligatory in this heinous bill-by the way, the Hemlock Society (now euphemistically called Compassion and Choices) has admitted to working with members of congress on this section of the bill;
Page 429: nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants can have authority to write end-of-life orders.Another curious fact: of the 31 occurrences of the word "planning" in the text of this massive bill, fifteen of them are in the sections dealing with death planning (always called "advanced care planning"), nine are in the sections on "family planning" (code words for abortion, sex education and contraception) and the other seven are about government bureaucratic functioning. Isn't it strange that a society which has worshipped "freedom of choice" for so long is now on the verge of surrendering its freedom and choices to government planners?The only reason we have our elderly being set up for systematic extermination now is because our culture has been so deeply brainwashed by the contraceptive and abortive mentalities that come from decades of "family planning" propaganda. The devaluation of human life at one end of the spectrum leaves the other end of the life spectrum completely vulnerable to the depredations of the power-mongers in Washington. Albert Schweitzer said that "if a man loses his reverence for any part of life, he will lose his reverence for all of life." In terms of the current healthcare debate that would mean: when you sow family planning, you reap death planning. It's that simple.How ironic that President Obama's so-called overhaul of the healthcare system in this country comes just at the time when the number of senior citizens is set to double. If the "Greatest Generation" gave our nation the technology and the prosperity to have the highest standard of living and best healthcare system in the world - bar none - then that generation will be the first to be killed off by the same technology - and all for altruistic reasons based on lifestyle and efficiency. Needless to say, the baby-boomers are next in line for euthanasia.Those who still value life and are now being called into a very personal pro-life battle, one that threatens to strike at the very center of our families: our parents and grandparents. Just as we have always stood united in our defense of the rights of the unborn, we must adamantly resist this heinous program to hand over life and death planning to the government. Those decisions must stay in the hands of God. We must resist this wickedness now, while we still have breath.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The White House is not happy with the millions of Americans who oppose the pro-abortion government-run health care plan Congress is considering. In a new post on the White House web site, Obama administration officials ask people to become tattletales on groups and people who oppose the health care bill. In a post titled "Facts Are Stubborn Things" that is quickly generating nationwide controversy, Obama's staff are asking for people to turn in anyone who says anything "fishy" about the pro-abortion health plan. With the abortion funding and insurance mandates for abortion that are in the bill, and the Obama's administration and pro-abortion groups insisting that pro-abortion components are not present, that could wind up at the top of the list. "There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end-of-life care," the White House says. "These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain e-mails or through casual conversation." "Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an e-mail or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov," the Obama web site says. Complaints have come quickly from pro-life advocates concerned that their opposition to the health care plan could be reported to Obama officials. "They're looking for tattletales; they're looking for snitches; they're looking for informants; they want their groupies to tattle on you if you happen to be telling the truth about what's in the health care plan," conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh responded. "The White House has, as yet, offered no explanation of what it is they plan to do with the tips on policy opposition they hope to receive from citizen informers." Jeff Emanuel, who runs the conservative web site RedState, is also upset. "The term 'disinformation' is used by the Obama White House as a catchall to describe any opposition to the president's push for single-payer, government-run health care," he says. "The White House wants to be informed of any forwarded e-mails or blog posts or any 'casual conversations' could be taken as opposition to their health care overhaul plan," he says, wanting to know what the White House plans to do with the information. The post is reminding some of an incident earlier this year, that saw the Department of Homeland Security produce a report saying "opponents of abortion" are likely to engage in extremism or terrorism.

Swine and AbortionAs loathe as I am to sully the good name of "swine" by relating them to abortion, there is a story in the Mexican swine flu epidemic that you will not hear broadcast by the major media or lamented in the stories of its victims: it is the connection between the epidemic and the legalization of abortion in Mexico.I learned of the story this week when I was conducting an HLI pilgrimage to the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The swine flu scare was "officially" announced on Friday, the 24th of April, two days before our pilgrimage was set to begin. The outbreak at that time was mostly limited to Mexico City which seemed to be the epicenter of the viral storm and where 20 people had already died (although it appears that the facts are not yet in on the causes of these and other suspected "swine flu" deaths). Despite the scare, 35 of our pilgrims decided to risk it and bring their intentions to the feet of Our Lady at the place where she chose to manifest her love to the people of that land in 1531. However - and this is the connection - it was also on April 24th, two years ago to the day that abortion was legalized in Mexico City, setting such an evil precedent for the whole nation. The connection just seems too eerie to be coincidental.On the positive side, the fallout from the flu also affected access to abortion in the city. Since 2007 there have been 14 hospitals, both public and private, that put out a shingle to make a killing off of abortion in the world's second largest city. During the swine flu epidemic only one of them has continued to offer abortions. Our pilgrims went to that killing center this week to pray and counsel the women going in for abortions. The restriction of the killing in the place where abortion is newly practiced cannot but be a clear message from the Lord of life about the evil that has come upon them. When people are more disturbed by a virus than by the wholesale slaughter of babies, they need a wake up call. And it appears that they just got it. "Let him who has ears, hear."Finally, our HLI affiliate in Mexico told us about another very curious effect of the epidemic: namely, that the pro-abortion Minister of Health, Dr. José Angel Córdova, who was scheduled to fly to the United States this week to receive an award for his role in getting abortion legalized in Mexico City, had to cancel his trip in order to attend to the disaster before him. It's hard to feel sorry for his tremendous misfortune. He helped bring an unmitigated disaster to his country, and we pray that he will get that particular message before he stands before the judgment seat of God to face his own personal and eternal disaster.On the home front, the United States Senate has just confirmed President Obama's pick of pro-abortion "Catholic," Kathleen Sebelius, as our own Secretary of Health and Human Services. This expert in dealing with swine came on board just in time to handle the flu epidemic before it kills too many people in the United States. She may not realize that abortion kills more Americans in a day than the swine flu will ever kill in this country. Let us pray that she too will get the message that the true epidemic in this country is not swine flu - it's the killing of children by abortion - and history will remember her role in this modern plague.Sincerely,Rev. On the 40th Anniversary of Humanae Vitae

This past July 25th marked the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s controversial
and still little heeded encyclical, Humanae vitae (On the Regulation of Birth). Many
both within and without the Church – heady from the many changes initiated by the
Second Vatican Council – fully expected that the Church would change her clear and
constant teachings on human sexuality and procreation. Proponents of change then
argued that the development of the contraceptive pill made such change in teaching not
only possible but imperative. However, Pope Paul VI (advised closely by the then
Cardinal Wojtyla) realized that while much in the Church was rightly changeable (for
example, liturgical rites and languages had changed often in the Church’s two thousand
year history) no one – even the Pope – could change the received teachings of the
Church in matters of faith and morals.
In Humanae vitae, giving an ecclesiastical example of a profile in courage, Paul
VI reaffirmed the immorality of recourse to artificial means of birth regulation. While
Pope Paul VI and the Catholic Church practically stood alone in reaffirmation that the
procreative and unitive ends of the conjugal act could not morally be arbitrarily
separated, it is important to remember that up until the early 20th century this was also
the constant teaching of all other Christian ecclesial bodies – Orthodox, Anglican and
Protestant.
Of course, the Church is not against sexual pleasure as some of her opponents
allege; but, more importantly, we are for the happiness of the human person. The
fostering of that happiness requires understanding the gift of our sexuality as God has
intended it. Sex, in God’s plan, is more than just a “recreational activity”. As Catholic
feminist and philosopher, Janet Smith says: “…sex is for babies and bonding. If
people are not ready for babies and bonding, they ought not to be engaging in acts of
sexual intercourse.” And what are nuptials but the public expression of a couple’s
readiness to do just that?
A careful rereading of Humanae vitae – especially in the light of the “sexual
revolution” unleashed in society over the past 40 years –can help us appreciate how
prescient the Pope was in his warnings of the dire consequences that a “contraceptive
mentality” would have on society. The numbers of unwanted pregnancies and
abortions did not decrease with the widespread acceptance of contraception – they
increased. And the “pill” far from freeing women from male domination made them
more likely to be victims of sexual exploitation by men. The break up of families and
the epidemic of divorce in our culture, the increasingly high incidence of women
bearing children out of wedlock, the flight from adult responsibility and the extended
“adolescence” of men, all point to – in hindsight –the rightness of Paul VI’s and the
Church’s teaching on human sexuality.

The Church condemns artificial contraception not just because of its bad consequences. She condemns
artificial contraception because it is intrinsically evil (and because it is evil it has bad consequences).
Contraception is evil because it violates the very purpose and nature of the sexual act – and in doing so violates
the dignity of the human person.
Pope John Paul II reaffirmed Humane vitae throughout his pontificate. His “Theology of the Body” has
sought to represent the perennial teachings of Church on human sexuality in an idiom more accessible to our
contemporaries. The sexual act, he teaches, implies self-giving, a self giving denied in the very act of
contraception. One’s “body language” should mean as much as one’s words do. Happiness and human
flourishing cannot be built on insincere language or lies. Contraception – like pre-marital or extra-marital sex -
is a lie because it denies the unconditional “yes” of one to another implied in the very act of love making.

Abortion, the genocide of our generation...

1. Auxiliary Bishop Robert Hermann asserted that more lives have been lost to abortion than in America's wars, and called upon his brother bishops to be courageous.
"Any bishop here would be willing, would consider it a privilege, to die tomorrow if it meant ending abortion," Hermann said. "We should dedicate the rest of our lives to taking any kind of criticism, whatever it is, to stop this horrible genocide."


2. Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Chicago raised the specter of potential threats to Catholic health care if (Catholic) hospitals were compelled under the law (proposed by Obama) to offer abortions.


“It could mean discontinuing obstetrics in our (Catholic) hospitals, and we may need to consider taking the drastic step of closing our catholic hospitals entirely,” Paprocki said. “It would not be sufficient to withdraw our sponsorship or to sell them to someone who would perform abortions. That would be a morally unacceptable cooperation in evil.”


“I do not think I’m being alarmist in considering such drastic steps,” he said. “We need to respond in a morally appropriate, responsible fashion.”



3. Sedlak was particularly critical of recent comments by Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., that he will not seek to deny the Eucharist to Vice-President-elect Joseph Biden, the country's first Catholic vice-president, after he takes office in January.


"You cannot say that abortion is a sin against God, and then deliver that same God into the hands of politicians who support abortion," Sedlak said, calling the failure of the bishops to adopt a uniform communion ban "a scandal and a source of confusion to lay Catholics."



These three men are modern day heroes of the Catholic Faith! I applaud them and pray that God will continue to strengthen them in the inevitable trials that await our country beginning inauguration day. May God help us all and bless this nation with more courageous individuals willing to lay down their lives for the Truth that is Jesus Christ!
