Today is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, Mary. We celebrated this morning by going to Mass early and taking Mary some of the roses from our flower bed. We first sang her "Happy Birthday" and then Immaculate Mary. The kids laid their roses at her feet and then posed for a picture with "Holy Mother" or "Mama Mary", as they sometimes call her. On special Marian feasts I like to make a food or desert and incorporate the color blue, which traditionally is associated with Mary. Some suggestions are using blue frosting, blue berries, blue sprinkles, or blue food coloring to color drinks or mashed potatoes. Sometimes the little extras are what help the kids really remember the importance of a feast day.
